I have 13 photographs in the show, and the opening concert is Thursday, January 29th at 7pm (tomorrow!) with a reception to follow. Please visit the NGCS website for ticketing information.

Dear Boston Photographers:

Galleries are closing, there is no communication between art schools at all, no events are happening except at the PRC. Photo is dying in Boston and I am trying to bring it to life again. Please consider joining Plum!
Once the collective gets underway, I hope to organize exhibits, visiting artists, publications, etc.

it's been really cold out, but still no snow. tim and i roasted a turkey for our friends last night and i've been listening to christmas music for several days. the semester is winding down and right now there is a lull, and all i want is snow and holidays.

all i can think about lately is simulation (for my thesis) and christmas (favorite time of the year). baudrillard and decorating. represemtations and snow falling outside.
my cousin got married last weekend but i only danced onced. i went apple picking for the first time. i think my family is falling apart. i finally got the cold that everyone in boston already had. i'm graduating next spring. i want a job in retail working at anthropologie. all i do is listen to christmas songs every day. today tim and i are going to rockport and salem on a train.

on the 4th, t. and i went to a friend's housewarming party and ate hot dogs and pasta salads on the floor of her new apartment. we all took the train to the fireworks but broke apart at copley so i could put my stuff down at t.'s parents' house. i love spending weekends there, playing house.

we walked to the edge of the charles and stood alongside 500,000 people to watch the fireworks. this is the first year i haven't gone to the fireworks in vernon and it is probably for the best. i wanted to be one of the people who were hanging out of their balconies on their riverside apartments, watching. on the way home, we saw people walking along highway overpasses, drunkenly dangling above the road. we walked down the middle of storrow drive and when we got into the city, it was filled with smoke and sirens were going off everywhere. we walked like zombies back to the house and talked about how the apocalypse would surely look like this.

we spent the weekend laying on the couch, watching tv and movies. we took a trip to the store and bought july cookout staples (hamburger buns, corn on the cob, baked beans, potato salad and cranberry juice for cocktails). t. set up the grill and made cheeseburgers while i stayed inside and cooked beans and corn. we ate out on his back deck at dusk, the deck lights twinkling around us.

unfortunately, i'm back to real life now, working for 9 hours and thinking about grocery shopping and trips to the bank after i go back home to my messy apartment. i've been thinking a lot about the future lately, and not in the nicehusbandbighouseandacat way. real estate license? MLS and a life of libraries? MFA in photo?

Taking In is a showcase of The Art Institute of Boston’s best contemporary photography, as submitted by the students and chosen by a jury of distinguished professionals in the arts community. This year’s jurors included photographer Rania Matar (finalist for 2008 ICA Foster Prize), Jim Fitts (Director of the PRC), Kristen Dodge (Co-Director of the Judi Rotenberg Gallery), and Arlette Kayafas (owner of Gallery Kayafas). The selected pieces are then published and exhibited.
